Background:
Opened in 1868 to serve Penistone, the school sees itself as 'unique' in being both a church and a community school. Many extensions over the years have made the school 'very attractive' and 'modern'. Since 1997 an environmental improvement project has been underway, with additions including a picnic area, a millenium garden, wooden fencing and a pond area. There are also plans to construct an information and communications technology suite. Children can receive tuition in a range of musical instruments and other extra-curricular activities include choir, orchestra, calligraphy and French lessons. Pupils with disabilities are welcome at the school and support is offered to those with learning difficulties. There is an 'open invitation' to parents to assist around the school. The school association develops relationships and organises social and fundraising activities.
