Background:

Founded in the 1950s, the school building has recently undergone major refurbishment, notably gaining a new technology centre. In addition to a technology college, Old Hall is a City Learning Centre and a Beacon school, and has gained a Sportsmark and Investors in People status. It has a 'strong' extra-curricular programme, especially in sport, and also offers a 'strong' brass band. Residential visits are organised within the UK and abroad. Whole-school fund-raising, such as a sponsored whole-school walk, benefits local and international charities. There is 'very good provision' for children with special educational needs (SEN) including an IR unit with a total of 16 special needs and CSA support staff. Students with SEN receive support which is predominantly in class. The school is over-subscribed. The school's ethos is one of 'respect, where other people matter'. It embodies 'high expectations, mutual support and high personal and academic standards'.
