Background:

Westways is a local authority school with children aged from three to 11 years. The school itself was built at the turn of the 20th century and is housed in three stone buildings - Mona, Warwick and Western buildings. It has a computer suite, halls, music room, art and craft room, special educational needs base and medical room. There are three hard surface play areas with small areas of garden. There is also a fenced area for the foundation stage children and a wild life garden. The school's links with Language College enable it to provide a range of language experiences. The school provides a range of cultural experiences including visits to the museum, art galleries and theatres and involvement in local and national arts projects. Various lunchtime clubs are available including art, gardening, netball, football, volleyball, drumming, French and Spanish. In addition there are drama/music productions and a thriving junior choir, which children can join in. The school has achieved DfES achievement award (2003). The school aims to create a friendly, happy and caring atmosphere where children's understanding of themselves and their environment is explored and developed through challenging and stimulating experiences.
