Background:
Founded in 1880, this over-subscribed school is situated in the village of Oxspring, seven miles from Barnsley and three miles from Penistone. Children are drawn from the farming community or have commuting parents. The school comprises a main Victorian building plus a more modern infant block and a mobile classroom. The grounds contain a small playing field and a pond area. Children with special educational needs are closely monitored and may receive extra support within the curriculum. Information technology is taught through giving each child specific targets and rewarding achievement with a certificate. Some Key Stage 2 pupils learn to swim. There are extra-curricular opportunities in football, netball and the recorder, and children can learn other musical instruments in small groups. Several community links are maintained and children raise funds for national and international charities. Parents are 'very welcome' to provide help around the school.
