Background:

Haxey CofE Primary School is in the village of Haxey, in the rural environment of the historic Isle of Axholme. Principally serving families resident in Haxey, it also attracts pupils from several surrounding towns and villages. Haxey's population retains its links with the traditional farming industry and also serves the thriving business communities around Doncaster, Scunthorpe and Gainsborough. The grounds are surrounded with a variety of trees and shrubs that give the school a shady and inviting appearance. At the rear is the playground, which is marked for a variety of sports and games, including netball, basketball, football, chess/draughts and hopscotch. The children have access to a range of outdoor toys and there are several shady seating areas. The school is in a quiet location on the outskirts of the village, and on two sides it overlooks open farmland. It is a modern single-storey building built in 1981. There have been several phases of extension and improvement work in recent years, including three new classrooms. It has seven classrooms, one for each year group. The reception suite was built in 2001 and the new Year 6 suite in 2003, along with a new music room and extensions to three other classrooms. Each class has both a teacher and a child support assistant to work with the children. The school prides itself on its happy, effective learning environment.
