Background:

The school opened in 1834 and is situated in the residential area of Ecclesall, close to All Saints Church, with which it has close links. The school's original stone building has been modernised and further buildings and classrooms added over the years to accommodate increasing numbers. The most recent addition was the large school hall, built in the early 1980s. Other facilities include a dining room and library. There are classrooms on two levels in the main block, and a further block and Terrapin classrooms in the school yard. The school has a small garden area and hard surface playing area, with the use of field facilities at Ecclesall Infant School and High Storrs School. Although there is a 'slightly Anglican bias' in religious education, the school is not confined to children of members of the Church of England. A wide range of extra-curricular activities is available and might include football, netball, badminton, cross-country running, athletics, gymnastics, chess, gardening, dance and stamp club. There is also an orchestra, band and other instrumental groups. The Kids' Club operates independently of the school to provide after-school care from 3.30pm to 6pm on weekdays.
