Background:

Edlington School is a single site 11-18 coeducational community schools. The school is controlled by the Doncaster council (the local education authority), though most important decisions are made or approved by the school's board of governors. The school was awarded full investor in People Status in January 1999. In June 2002 the school received the prestigious Artsmark award. In 2003 the Department for Education and Skills recognise the academic improvements of the school through the 'school achievement award'. As the school improves physical resources the school library is incorporated into a multimedia resource centre, equipped with the latest technology, including PCs, CD ROMs, video viewing facilities and group audiotape monitors. The centre provides accommodation to 40 students at a time, with attractive displays and comfortable seating. The school have three well-equipped and recently upgraded computer rooms.The school has excellent facilities for performing arts, with purpose built dance and drama studios and two specialist music rooms. Sports activities are football, hockey, cricket, rugby, basketball, rounders, tennis, athletics, swimming, aerobics and gymnastics. Individual and teams have achieved considerable sporting success over the years. The school aim to educate young people in a caring, supportive, but challenging atmosphere. It demands high standards of effort and responsibility, to enable them to achieve to their potential.
