Background:
The main school is housed in a single-storey building in Toll Bar, a village in the ex-mining area. A unit for the nursery and reception classes is due to be completed in May 2004. Communication technology (ICT) facilities, a new library, a new staff room and the introduction of a community use room. The school believes in teaching independence and self-responsibility and organises annual residential visits for all Key Stage 2 pupils. Educational visitors are an important part of termly topic work. The school holds an annual charity fund raising event.
