Background:

Built in 1852, the school was remodelled extensively in the 1970s and then extended in 1992 due to a school amalgamation and population increases in the village. Set within its own grounds, including an 'extensive' playground, the building enjoys views across 'beautiful' countryside. Each class has at least two computers and there is an internet connection, most of which has been paid for through sponsorship from local business. Staff strive to make the curriculum 'interesting and stimulating' and work closely with parents to assist children with special educational needs. The school choir involves as many children as possible, and all children learn the recorder and sometimes an additional instrument. 'Well attended' football, netball, dance, unihoc, computer and recorder clubs are held after school. Sports teams represent the school in local competitions, with netball and cricket teams finding local success in 1999. Special clubs run during school holidays, early in the morning and after school to offer supervised activities to children out of school hours. Older pupils can take part in two residential activity visits. Annual musicals are performed for the community and children raise money for various charities. The 'very active' parent-teacher association organises fundraising for the school. 'It is the central aim of the school to provide a happy and stimulating environment where all children can succeed and flourish.' The school is over-subscribed.
