Background:
Situated in the extreme north west of Sheffield, the school serves a large catchment area, stretching along the valley. The school opened in 1963, and is housed in a two storey building set in 'extensive' gounds. Facilities include 12 classrooms, a library/resources room, two further classes in mobile accommodation and a 'well-equipped' hall and seperate dinning room. Outside there are two 'well-maintained' playgrounds and a 'large' playing field. In addition to offering a 'broad' curriculum, the school participates in a 'wide range' of extra-curricular activities and has 'enjoyed success' in a variety of sports competitions. Sports include football for Years 5 and 6, netball, rounders, gymnastics and dance. Other activities include recorders, choir, art and craft, drama and French. The school has 'strong' links with the community and is closely involved with the Stocksbridge Steel Valley Project and local art projects. The school encourages its pupils to 'strive, to achieve their best and to have high expectations of themselves in all areas of school life'.
