Background:

Priory School is an 11 to 16 comprehensive which has had Sports College status for the lasttwo years. The school'serves communities on the east side of Barnsley. Being the only specialist sports school in Barnsley the school has excellent physical education facilities. Following extensive refurbishment, the school's facilities includes four newly-equipped ICT rooms, a technology area with food technology, electronics and business studies rooms and a resistant materials workshop, three art rooms incorporating textiles, a music room with practice rooms and a newly stocked library. The physical education area includes a sports hall, gym, climbing walls, tennis courts and netball courts, cricket areas, a boxing ring, a floodlit all-weather pitch and an extensive playing field. The school works closely with local organisations, such as Priory Campus, the Alhambra centre, NSPCC, Adult Education and Business Mentors. The school's specialist school status has brought opportunities, which have benefited the community. The school aims to be a school where the development of self-esteem and confidence is a priority and where respect for self and others is promoted.
