Background:
Mattersey Primary is housed in a 'modern' building which dates from 1968 and is set in a rural location with 'extensive' playing fields. The school works with English Heritage in taking care of the local priory. Chess club is offered at lunchtime, in addition to football club for boys and girls after school. Adult education classes and a private playgroup are run in the school hall. Beacon School status was achieved recently and a partnership link has been developed with a 'multi-cultural inner city' school. A classroom support assistant works with individuals and 'focussed' groups with special educational needs (SEN). 'Booster classes' are held for the less able in Year 6 to assist them in achieving Level 4 in Key Stage 2 tests. An after-school club provides care and supervision for pupils every day.
