Background:
Built in 1909, the school is accommodated in a two-storey building situated just outside the town, 'easily accessible' via a bus route. The building has undergone 'various' extensions over the years and there are now eight classrooms, a main central hall, a pottery kiln and several other rooms. There is a mobile classroom in the playground, and the nursery and dining accomodation is housed separately across the school yard. Most of the children live in owner-occupied houses on a nearby estate. Burton Road Primary, which has a 'very hard working staff strongly supported by parents', is oversubscribed and has a waiting list.
