Background:
Heather Garth Primary School was opened in 1976. It is of a semi-open plan design consisting of eight classrooms based around a central quad. Each "pair" of classrooms has its own entrance to the playground; each class has its own cloakroom, toilets and sinks. Every class has access to a shared "wet area" and some classrooms have a tiered "quiet corner". The school has three separate dining areas and operates two sittings. The school hall is used for PE, assemblies, concerts, music and singing. All classes have access to their own class computers and a new "state-of-the-art" computer suite, which was opened in 2001. Heather Garth Primary School aims for all children to enjoy and achieve at sport. This school provides the opportunity for its junior children to participate in inter-school competitions in matball and football. It also provides opportunities for coaches to come into the school to teach a variety of sporting activities.
